The physician's work has characteristics that differ from those of many other professions. The doctor is responsible for his diagnostic and therapeutic decisions; if the clinical condition requires multidisciplinary care, the doctor is responsible for leading and coordinating the work of the professionals and is ultimately responsible for the process. This is the only way to provide monitoring and solution to the patient´s health problem at the outpatient level and, in particular, at the hospital level. If the case is complex and difficult to solve, the doctor will take it to a case discussion session, in search of a consensus of opinion. If complications occur, the physician should guide the actions to be taken until resolution; often staying beyond working hours. Meanwhile, the doctor is responsible for keeping up-to-date, which means that he or she should establish databases, undertake analysis of results and publish in scientific periodicals the ordinary work carried out at his or her medical center. This ensures the systematization of processes that take place in hospital services under the leadership of experienced professionals.
