Edema pulmonar postobstructivo, complicación postoperatoriaAbstract
Postobstructive pulmonary edema (POPPE) is a postopera-tive complication and its approach depends on an appropriatediagnosis. POPPE can be classified in two types. POPPE typeI is caused by acute upper airway obstruction , and type II isdue to chronic obstruction. The mechanism of this entity is amarked decrease in pericapilar interstitical pressure in thelung that results in capillary leakage and edema. Its treatmentrequires mechanical ventilatory support including positiveend expiratory pressure (PEEP). Its prognosis is very good ifthe diagnosis is done appropriately. We report three cases thatillustrate its diagnosis and treatment.
