Abstract

We describe the case of a female patient with a previouslumboperitoneal shunt, who developed bacterial meningitisKluyvera sp. was isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid. Toour knowledge this is the first case of CNS infection by thismicroorganism. This pathogen was very sensitive to thirdgeneration cephalosporins; and was treated succesfully withcefotaxime. The Kluyver genus comprises three species whoare uncommonly isolated from clinical samples. It can beassociated with mild to severe infections and is morecommon in inmunosuppressed hosts.
