Aim:hyperhidrosis is a frequent condition that complicatesthe life of the patients. They feel or are actually openlyrejected by the persons they interact with. Sympathectomyby videothoracoscopy has become the approach of choicefor patients with hyperhidrosis.
Material and methods:we herein report our experiencewith thoracoscopic sympathectomy in 80 consecutivepatients, operated upon during 24 months.
Results:our results are comparable with those reported byother international groups as well as the degree of satisfac-tion expressed by the patients.
Conclusion:videothoracoscopic sympathectomy is aneffective and readily available technique to treat hyper-hidrosis. More work is needed to diminish the incidence ofcompensatory sweating, a frequent and annoying side effectof the procedure.
