Abstract

Lactic acidosis is a rare complication of antiretroviraltreatment for HIV. Its occurrence has been related to the useof transcriptase reverse nucleoside analogues, especiallyestavudine and didanosine. We present here 2 cases of HIVpatients who suffered lactic acidosis and were treated at theInternal Medicine Department of the Hospital Mexico, SanJose, Costa Rica. Both cases had a fatal evolution, despitethat both received all the therapeutic measures recommended in the literatura.
