Acute exogenous lipoid pneumonia, about a "fire eater"

A case of a 19 year-old juggler and fire manipulatorcame in to the medical emergency service of the Hospital"Dr. Rafael A. Calderón Guardia" because of a suddenepisode of right thoracic pain and dyspnea. A right pleuraleffusion was documented and a round mass at the base ofthe left lung. Since at the beginning it was clinically sugges-tive of community acquired pneumonia he was treatedas such. Later on the case was presented in medical roundsand given his work history and clinical characteristics, itwas felt that he had "fire-eater" pneumonia, an uncommontype of aspiration pneumonia. A review of the literature is presented.
