Continuous glucose monitoring is a technology that was introduced 25 years ago, and its use has become increasingly widespread in recent years. There are different systems available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The use of these systems is associated with improved glycemic control, fewer hypoglycemic events, and a reduced risk of hospitalization; however, these benefits are realized when their use is accompanied by an educational program for both patients and healthcare professionals on how to interpret the data generated by the monitoring. This editorial comments on the article “Recommendations from a group of specialists on the use of continuous glucose monitoring with the FreeStyle Libre system in Costa Rica,” which appears in this same issue of Acta Médica Costarricense.
