Hip fractures in the geriatric population represent a challenge for healthcare systems due to the increased morbidity and mortality associated with them, as well as the rising incidence observed in recent times. Many of these patients, present with comorbidities such as cardiac or renal diseases, or are on anticoagulant therapy, which requires expedited preoperative management and optimization. At the same time, the urgency of performing early surgery to enable rapid mobilization is crucial for minimizing morbidity and mortality in this population. Therefore, multidisciplinary management is essential. This review explores the up to date preoperative orthopedic and anesthetic considerations for optimal management of these patients.
