Abstract

Aim: To establish reference values for platelet aggregation tests in a local population of Costa Rica.

Methods: The sampling process, sample collection, and preparation for platelet aggregation determination using the Born technique are described following the guidelines of Cattaneo and colleagues, published in 2013. Robust statistical methods were used for data analysis.

Results: The percentage of platelet aggregation obtained with agonists such as Adenosine diphosphate, Ristocetin, arachidonic acid and Collagen allowed for the establishment of reference ranges with percentages similar to those presented in the literature. In this regard, the minimum value of platelet aggregation under normal conditions hovers around 50% aggregation, whereas other agonists like Epinephrine and Arachidonic Acid show significant variability, so a minimum normal range could not be established for these due to their wide reference range.

Conclusions: This research provides relevant information on the variability of platelet aggregation in a specific population, as well as the application of an appropriate statistical method to establish local reference values. This is essential for the accurate interpretation of laboratory test results in a clinical context
